According to a 2009 report by the Milken Institute, the San Jose metro area remains the #1 high-tech center in all of North America.

Talent & Workforce

The driving force behind San Jose’s economic success is the region’s pool of bright minds. With one of the most talented workforces in the world, San Jose is an ideal location for companies looking for exceptional talent to fill their ranks.

San Jose’s workforce is both highly educated and extremely productive.

  • More than 43% of adults in the San Jose metro area have a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared with 28% of all U.S. adults.[1]
  • Employee productivity, calculated at $130,000 per worker, is more than double the national average.[2]

San Jose companies have a natural pipeline to the region's many top-rate institutions, including Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley and San Jose State University. The Bay Area has more than 100 universities and colleges which collectively awarded approximately 78,000 degrees in 2009, including more than 30,000 bachelor’s degrees and 20,000 post-graduate degrees.[3] And with excellent K-12 schools throughout the region, Silicon Valley also nurtures an abundance of home-grown talent.

In addition, our workforce has continually attracted talent from outside of the United States. Foreign-born workers now make up almost half of all Silicon Valley workers, and more than half of all new arrivals in 2008 had bachelor's degrees or higher.[4] This infusion of foreign talent not only adds to the region’s rich diversity, it also enhances a company’s ability to serve diverse clients and remain competitive in our global economy.

Tap into the abundant levels of highly skilled talent that has found a home in San Jose and Silicon Valley!
